USA team to be selected today

As it was said before, the finalists for the 2006 USA Basketball men's world championship squad will be announced today at a news conference that will include managing director Jerry Colangelo and Coach Mike Krzyzewski.

We can say that Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas and forward Antawn Jamison are among 18 players who have participated in a training camp in Las Vegas since Wednesday. In fact, a roster of 15 players will be selected today and will travel to Asia for the World Basketball Challenge which runs from Aug. 11-15.

It's important to know that a final roster of 12 players will be picked on Aug. 18 and will play in the upcoming World Championships in Japan. In fact, basketball players who are cut today will still be part of the national team program and will be eligible to play in future international competitions, including the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
